QRT · User manual

A clear cue list from the first GO.

This guide covers installation, QLab connection, status markers and the role-based views available in QRT.

Guide for QRT 10.0.9 · QLab 5 · macOS 13 or later

01

Before you start

QRT observes QLab. It never replaces or changes your cue list.

01

Prepare QLab

Open QLab 5 and the workspace you want to follow.

02

Allow View access

In QLab, allow at least OSC View access with a four-digit passcode.

03

Launch QRT

The 7-day trial starts only when QRT first establishes a real QLab connection.

QRT only issues read queries. It never sends a GO, moves the playhead or changes a cue.

02

Connect QLab

When QLab and QRT run on the same Mac, the default network values are usually all you need.

QLab and QRT on the same Mac

  1. 01

In QLab, open Workspace Settings → Network → OSC Access.

  2. 02

Choose a passcode with at least View permission. QRT does not require Control permission.

  3. 03

In QRT, open QRT → Settings → Connection and choose Local.

  4. 04

Keep address 127.0.0.1 and port 53000, then enter the QLab passcode.

  5. 05

Select Reload Workspaces. If several are open, select the one to display.

QLab on another Mac

  1. 01

Connect both Macs to the same trusted local network.

  2. 02

In QRT, choose Remote and enter the QLab Mac IP address or .local name.

  3. 03

Use QLab’s OSC port — 53000 by default — and the same View passcode.

  4. 04

Allow the connection through the macOS firewall if prompted, then reload workspaces.

03

Read the display

Badges describe a cue’s position in the show. Colour and progress remain consistent across role views.

GO

Active

QLab reports that this cue or group is active.

PRE

Before the action

The pre-wait is active and counts down to GO.

NEXT

Next manual call

The branch is waiting for a GO and has no configured pre-wait.

NEXT/PRE

Next call with a wait

The branch is waiting for a GO and owns a pre-wait that will begin on that GO.

READ

Completed

QRT observed the cue pass through GO and then finish. Read cues can be hidden.

Active GO

The root cue or group currently active in QLab.

Remain / Elapsed

Remaining and elapsed time reported by QLab.

Next GO

The next actionable cue at the playhead.

Group cues

The detailed group chronology, including every nested level.

04

Choose a role view

Every position follows the same workspace while removing information it does not need.

Stage views

Memo cues feed the Stage view. Stage Left and Stage Right show only explicitly positioned Memos. These three views share the same timing engine and are mutually exclusive on screen.

Sound, Lighting, Video and Network are detected automatically from their QLab cue type. Only stage Memos use the position markers below.

05

Prepare stage Memos

Position markers add metadata exclusively to QLab Memo cues.

Where to write a marker

Name# requiredExample: #STAGE LEFT Actor entrance
Notes# requiredExample: #COUR
Number# optionalExample: STAGE RIGHT or #JARDIN

French and English markers

PlateauStage#PLATEAU · #STAGE
JardinStage Left#JARDIN · #STAGE LEFT · #STAGELEFT · #STAGE-LEFT · #STAGE_LEFT
CourStage Right#COUR · #COURS · #STAGE RIGHT · #STAGERIGHT · #STAGE-RIGHT · #STAGE_RIGHT
  • A marker on an Audio, Light, Video, Network or Group cue is ignored.
  • Stage displays every Memo, positioned or not.
  • Stage Left and Stage Right display only Memos carrying their position.
  • The QLab cue number remains exactly as entered; QRT never rewrites it.

06

Understand QLab groups

QRT walks groups recursively. A Timeline can contain another Timeline and a Start First & Enter group without requiring a new rule for every depth.

Timeline

All children start with the group; their pre-waits define their positions. Nested waits are cumulative.

Playlist

Children advance sequentially according to QLab’s Playlist settings.

Start First & Enter

The first child starts and the playhead enters the group. Later branches are marked NEXT or NEXT/PRE.

Start First

The first child starts; auto-continues and auto-follows can run a sequence independently from the playhead.

Start Random

QRT never invents the selected child. It displays the choice after QLab has made it.

QLab remains the playback authority. QRT projects timers between readings, then reconciles with QLab without sending progress backwards.

07

Adapt the display

Start with the role view, then keep only the widgets that matter during the show.

Main toolbar

Show or hide Active GO, Remain / Elapsed, Next GO, group cues and completed cues.

Window

Choose a resolution, full screen, launch in full screen and always on top.

Readability

Adjust the translucent background, clock, tag display and orange/red thresholds.

Language

Français and English can be switched immediately in Settings → Display.

Browser display (optional)

In Settings → Deployment, enable Browser Display. On this Mac, the default address is http://127.0.0.1:9470. For a phone or tablet, set the listening address to 0.0.0.0 only on a trusted network, then use the network address shown by QRT.

08

Trial, purchase and restore

The trial provides 7 days of QRT with QLab, starting from the first real connection.

Try

Download QRT, open QLab and connect your first workspace. No La Régie Apps account is required.

Purchase

In Settings → Modules, choose QRT for QLab. Apple handles the complete payment process.

Restore

On another Mac using the same Apple Account, choose Restore Purchases.

09

Troubleshooting

QRT sees no workspace

Check that a QLab workspace is open and port 53000 is available, then select Reload Workspaces.

OSC access denied

Check the passcode and allow at least View in Workspace Settings → Network → OSC Access.

Remote connection fails

Check the QLab Mac address, shared network and firewall. Do not use an untrusted public network.

Port 9470 is closed

This is expected while Browser Display is disabled. Enable it in Settings → Deployment; this port is not required for QRT’s primary connection to QLab.

A Stage Left or Stage Right marker is ignored

The cue must be a Memo. # is required in Name and Notes, but optional in Number.

READ does not appear instantly

QRT reads QLab at a regular cadence. The change normally appears on the next read cycle, in about one second.

A timer appears frozen

Check whether the cue or one of its parent groups is paused in QLab. QRT deliberately holds the displayed value while paused.

A purchase is not recognised

Open Settings → Modules and choose Restore Purchases with the Apple Account used for the purchase.
